In the exhibition Orlando, guest curator Tilda Swinton calls upon Virginia Woolf’s prescient 1928 novel and its themes of transformation, limitlessness, and the deep perspective that is earned from a long life to liberate traditions of portraiture in photography from the constructs of prescriptive gender or social norms. Originally organized by Aperture, New York, Orlando’s West Coast debut is supported by a new selection of artworks from the McEvoy Family Collection that offer a panoply of colors and tastes connecting the story’s legacy to the present day.
