REVOLUTIONARY GRAIN: Celebrating the Spirit of the Black Panther Party
Photography by Susanna Lucia Lamaina

I am currently working on a Social Documentary photographic essay about former members of the Black Panther Party. This small selection of portraits represents a larger body of work that constitutes not only portraits but their stories, reflecting their time in the Party and how their individual legacies have progressed.

For the last four years, I’ve been traveling around the United States photographing as many former members of the party that would like to participate. There were 48 chapters. All of the Brother’s and Sister’s that have participated have been incredibly generous with their time, love and support of my project. In the process of doing this project, many Black Panther Party members have become my dear friends. I’ve truly been inspired!

The final presentation will be a book published in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Black Panther Party in October 2016. The Brother’s and Sister’s of the Party who have dedicated their lives to community service know as the “Rank and File” members are long overdue for recognition in serving the people, body and soul.
