About the Lodge
McLaren Lodge was built in 1896 as the home and office of the park superintendent, John McLaren, who became commissioner in 1887 and lived there until his death in 1943.

The Lodge is now home to the Recreation and Parks Department, the Friends of Recreation and Parks, and the San Francisco Parks Trust. The building was designed by architect Edward R. Swain in a Moorish-Gothic style that features heavy basalt stonework and sandstone quoins. (Source: Parks Portal)
